Where it came from
BanG Dream! Girls Band Party!☆PICO～OHMORI～ was produced in 2020 by DMM.futureworks and Sanzigen as the second season of the chibi-style spin-off series based on the BanG Dream! rhythm game franchise. This iteration continued the series' signature comedic approach, distilling the complex personalities and character dynamics of the game's various bands into rapid-fire, surreal gag sequences. The production aimed to provide a lighter, more experimental contrast to the main series' narrative-driven anime seasons.
The series design relies on the distinctive 'Pico' art style, which characterizes the cast as miniaturized, highly expressive avatars. This stylistic choice allowed the animation team to lean into slapstick humor and unconventional storytelling techniques that would be jarring in a traditional drama. Upon its release, the series was well-received by fans of the franchise as a clever meta-commentary on the rhythm game's own internal lore and the established archetypes of its ensemble cast.
