Three years after their adventure, Lafiel becomes captain on the brand new assault ship Basroil and Jinto finishes his training to become a supply officer and joins Lafiels crew. They set out to join a large fleet with the mission of defending the strategically important Laptic Gate from a force 15 times larger than their own. And to bring even more worries, their new fleet commander is from the Bebous family, a family notorious for their "Spectacular Insanity".

Where it came from
Banner of the Stars was produced by Sunrise and released in 2000 as a direct television sequel to the 1999 series Crest of the Stars. Based on the expansive space opera light novels by Hiroyuki Morioka, the series continues the story of Jint Lin and Lafiel Abriel as they navigate the geopolitical complexities of the Abh Empire and the encroaching United Mankind. The production aimed to expand the scope of the original narrative, shifting from the intimate character development of the first season to a more grand-scale focus on military strategy and interstellar conflict.
The visual direction and character designs were carefully crafted to translate Morioka's dense world-building into a cohesive aesthetic. The series received praise for its commitment to the source material's complex linguistic and political framework, distinguishing it from more action-heavy space operas of the era. It remains a hallmark of high-concept science fiction anime, remembered for its focus on character dynamics against a backdrop of sweeping galactic warfare.
