BATTLE MODE

Battle Mode was produced by the animation studio Gainax as part of the extensive promotional material associated with their groundbreaking 1995 series, Neon Genesis Evangelion. During the mid-1990s, Gainax sought to deepen the engagement of their fanbase by curating special media that explored the series' complex mecha designs and tactical concepts. This release specifically highlights the mechanical intricacies of the Evangelion units, catering to viewers interested in the technical lore that underpinned the show's dark, existential narrative.

The aesthetic direction of Battle Mode draws heavily from the industrial and biomechanical influences established by the show's production team, particularly the distinct vision of director Hideaki Anno and character designer Yoshiyuki Sadamoto. The visual language favors sharp, utilitarian lines juxtaposed with the organic, often unsettling anatomy of the Evas. Upon its release, it was well-received by the dedicated community of collectors who valued the studio's commitment to building a cohesive, layered world that extended far beyond the broadcast episodes.
