Where it came from
Becoming Pigs Yeah Yeah is an unconventional artist book released during the height of the 1990s zine and independent publishing boom. Born from a DIY ethos, it reflects the era's fascination with lo-fi aesthetics and subcultural commentary. It was produced as a limited, ephemeral run by independent creators who sought to bridge the gap between traditional print media and the raw, unpolished energy of the underground art scene.
The design of the work is intentionally stark, utilizing a minimalist layout that prioritizes text and erratic imagery to convey its cryptic themes. The creators aimed to challenge the conventional expectations of narrative structure, opting instead for a non-linear flow that mirrored the fragmented nature of contemporary life. Upon its release, it gained a modest cult following within fringe literary circles, recognized primarily for its refusal to adhere to standard industry design norms.
