Where it came from
Released in 2011, Beelzebub: Hashire! Beel-bo Keiji!! is a special short animation produced by Studio Pierrot. It was created as an original video animation accompanying the popular supernatural comedy manga series by Ryuhei Tamura, which was being serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump at the time. The production was intended to capitalize on the success of the television anime adaptation, offering fans a lighthearted, self-contained story that leaned into the absurd comedic tone of the source material.
The production team at Studio Pierrot maintained the established character designs from the television series, focusing on the chaotic dynamic between the protagonist Tatsumi Oga and the infant demon Beelzebub. The short was designed to function as a playful spin-off rather than a continuation of the main narrative, and it was received by audiences as a quintessential example of the Jump-style anime special: high energy, slapstick-driven, and designed primarily to deepen fan engagement with the ongoing franchise.
