Behind Us

Behind Us was produced by Geidai Animation, the renowned animation program at Tokyo University of the Arts. As a student-led project, the film emerged from an environment that prioritizes experimental storytelling and traditional craft over commercial blockbuster conventions. It serves as an example of the sophisticated, highly artistic output that characterizes the university's rigorous graduate curriculum in film and animation.

The film is notable for its deliberate aesthetic choices, often favoring hand-drawn techniques and a focus on intimate, atmospheric narratives. Like many works stemming from the Geidai department, the design process was led by student creators under the mentorship of established industry professionals, aiming to challenge the visual language of contemporary animation. Upon its completion, the film was primarily circulated through international animation festivals and academic screenings, garnering praise from critics for its technical ambition and evocative visual style.
