Where it came from
Beyblade Burst Surge, known in Japan as Beyblade Burst Superking, debuted in 2020 as the fifth season of the long-running Beyblade Burst anime franchise. Produced by studio OLM and released as a streaming-exclusive ONA series, the show was designed to introduce the 'Superking' layer system to the associated toy line. The narrative shifts focus to the brothers Hyuga and Hikaru Hizashi, who travel to Japan to challenge legendary bladers, maintaining the high-energy, competitive tone that has defined the series since its 1999 inception.
The series art style reflects the evolution of modern ONA production, emphasizing dynamic motion and exaggerated character expressions to match the intensity of the specialized spinning-top battles. While the show was primarily marketed to younger audiences as a companion to the physical Hasbro and Takara Tomy toy releases, it was received as a faithful expansion of the Beyblade universe, successfully integrating legacy characters with a new generation of protagonists to sustain interest in the ongoing competitive hobby.
