Bikkuri-men

Bikkuri-men was produced by Studio Lesprit and released in 2023 as a direct modern spin-off of the long-running Bikkuriman sticker franchise. The series was developed to celebrate the enduring cultural footprint of the Lotte confectionery wafers, which had previously inspired various anime adaptations throughout the 1980s and 1990s. By centering its narrative on the high-stakes world of sticker collecting, the show aimed to bridge the nostalgia of the original 1985 sticker boom with a contemporary visual aesthetic.

The creative direction for the series leaned into the juxtaposition of mundane modern life and the mythical, absurdist lore established by the original sticker designs. Directed by Tomohiro Tsukimisato, the show utilized a distinct character style meant to evoke the proportions of the classic illustrations while integrating them into a serialized storytelling format. Upon release, it was received as a niche meta-commentary on the collector community, appreciated primarily by fans who maintained a historical connection to the original trading cards.
