Where it came from
The Karte NG Extras are a collection of supplemental animation sequences and outtakes produced by Tezuka Productions during the development of the 2004 Black Jack television series. These clips were intended to showcase the studio's technical prowess and provide a more experimental, lighthearted look at Osamu Tezuka’s iconic character, surgeon Black Jack, outside the constraints of the main narrative arc.
The character designs remain faithful to the original manga aesthetic while adapting to the digital ink-and-paint techniques popularized in the early 2000s. These extras were well-received by fans of the franchise for their commitment to the melancholic yet adventurous spirit of the source material, serving as a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse into the studio’s creative process and the collaborative effort required to modernize a classic manga icon for a contemporary television audience.
