Where it came from
Black Summoner, known in Japan as Kuro no Shōkanshi, is a 2022 television anime adaptation based on the popular light novel series written by Doufu Mayoi. Produced by Studio Satelight, the series fits squarely into the isekai fantasy genre, which centers on protagonists transported into parallel worlds. The production team focused on translating the source material's blend of action, game-like progression systems, and character development into a serialized episodic format.
The adaptation was directed by Toshimasa Ishii and features character designs by Miwa Oshima, who sought to maintain the visual clarity and personality traits established in the original illustrations by Kurogin. Upon its release, the series was received as a quintessential representative of the modern power-fantasy trend, appreciated by audiences for its straightforward narrative beats and the vibrant, high-energy animation typical of Satelight’s aesthetic approach during that period.
