Based on the manga Blame! by Nihei Tsutomu.
In a city that is said to have thousands of levels, making it impossible to tell the sky from the ground, the mysterious Killy wanders the bizarre and foreboding levels of this mega-structure, where the boundaries between machine and living organism have been obscured.

Where it came from
BLAME! Prologue was released in 2007 by Production I.G as a short promotional animation based on the seminal cyberpunk manga series by Tsutomu Nihei. It was conceived as part of a broader effort to adapt the dense, atmospheric world of the manga into a visual format, serving as a stylistic proof-of-concept that experimented with the blend of traditional animation and early 3D digital environments.
The animation was directed by Hiroyuki Seshita, who sought to capture the oppressive, gargantuan scale of the Megastructure that serves as the setting for the story. The design philosophy focused on high-contrast visuals and an industrial, minimalist aesthetic that echoed Nihei's distinctively sparse architectural style. Upon its debut, the short was received as a fascinating, albeit brief, technical bridge between the static pages of the original work and the eventual full-length feature adaptations.
