Blue Blink

Blue Blink, or Aoi Blink, was produced by Tezuka Productions in 1989, serving as one of the final projects overseen by Osamu Tezuka before his passing. The series was designed as a collaborative effort to bring to life a story concept Tezuka had been developing for years, rooted in his desire to create a fantasy-adventure work that appealed to a younger audience through a blend of traditional animation techniques and his signature character design philosophy.

The story follows a boy named Kakeru who befriends a magical, blue horse-like creature named Blink, embarking on a quest to rescue his father and explore mystical realms. While the series was received as a gentle, heartfelt addition to the late-Tezuka era, its visual style reflects the transition in Japanese animation during the late 1980s, balancing the whimsical aesthetic synonymous with Tezuka’s earlier works against the evolving production standards of the period.
