Blue Seed Beyond

Blue Seed Beyond was produced in 1996 by Production I.G as a two-part original video animation series, serving as a direct continuation of the 1994 television anime adaptation of Yuzo Takada’s manga series. Emerging during the height of the mid-90s interest in supernatural-themed seinen anime, the project reunited the core creative staff from the original series to resolve lingering plot threads and further explore the interaction between the ancient Japanese deity Momiji Fujimiya and the specialized Terrestrial Administration Center task force.

The character design for the franchise was handled by Kikuko Inoue and Hiroshi Kato, drawing heavily from Takada’s original aesthetic which blends modern military procedural elements with Shinto mythology and folklore. The series was well-received by fans of the original television run for its ability to maintain the consistent tone and visual quality associated with Production I.G during that era, effectively concluding the narrative arc established in the preceding television episodes.
