Where it came from
The Blue Seed Omake was released in 1995 as a specialized extra, following the conclusion of the television anime adaptation of Yuzo Takada's manga series. Produced by Production I.G, the content was designed to offer fans a lighter, comedic epilogue that moved away from the serious supernatural and mythological themes of the primary narrative. It served as a bridge for the fanbase during the transition between the series run and the subsequent release of the 'Blue Seed Beyond' original video animation.
The creative direction for these shorts focused on character-driven humor, utilizing the established cast of the Terrestrial Administration Center to explore the domestic and social lives of the protagonists. This approach was intended to deepen audience engagement with the characters' personalities in a low-stakes format. The project was well-received by the dedicated viewership of the time, serving as a successful example of the era's trend of utilizing 'omake' or bonus content to maintain franchise visibility between major production cycles.
