Body Jack: Tanoshii Yutai Ridatsu

Released by Bandai in 1987, Body Jack: Tanoshii Yutai Ridatsu is a notable entry in the late 1980s Japanese original video animation market. The title explores the concept of astral projection through a supernatural lens, aligning with the period's fascination with occult and psychic phenomena in anime. It reflects the experimental era of direct-to-video production, where studios frequently explored niche or unconventional narratives that were considered too risky for broadcast television.

The production sought to blend psychological horror with the character-driven storytelling common to the decade. While its animation style and thematic focus are representative of Bandai's broader portfolio during that period, the work is often analyzed by collectors as a distinct stylistic artifact of the pre-digital animation age. It arrived at a time when the home video market was expanding rapidly, allowing creators to lean into darker, more idiosyncratic visuals that defined the cult classic aesthetic of 80s OVA releases.
