Bottom Biting Bug

The Bottom Biting Bug, or Oshiri Kajiri Mushi, originated as a viral 2007 NHK Minna no Uta song before being adapted into a television series by Kinema Citrus in 2012. The series was designed to expand upon the whimsical, surreal nature of the original musical short, focusing on a character whose primary purpose is to bite people's bottoms to bring them happiness and vitality. The animation style intentionally favors a flat, brightly colored aesthetic that echoes the simplicity of children's picture books and early Flash animation.

The 2012 adaptation served to modernize the character for a new generation of Japanese television viewers, maintaining the infectious, repetitive energy that made the original song a cultural phenomenon. While the series was aimed squarely at a younger demographic, it received critical notice for its commitment to a distinct, unconventional visual identity that deviated from standard anime tropes. It remains a notable example of how a singular, catchy musical concept can be successfully extrapolated into a multi-episode narrative format.
