Where it came from
B't X was produced by the studio Kyokuichi Tokyo Movie and first aired as a television series in 1996. Created by manga artist Masami Kurumada, the series was conceived following the conclusion of his immensely popular Saint Seiya, aiming to blend his signature themes of mythic struggle and brotherhood with a science-fiction aesthetic. The narrative follows Teppei Takamiya as he searches for his kidnapped brother and discovers a sentient mechanical beast known as a B't.
The character and mechanical designs were heavily influenced by the high-octane, action-oriented style characteristic of the mid-1990s shonen landscape. The series was designed to showcase intricate, armor-like machinery while maintaining emotional, character-driven stakes. While it garnered a dedicated following for its unique fusion of biology and technology, it ultimately remained in the shadow of Kurumada's earlier works, achieving a cult status among fans of the era's robotic-fantasy genre.
