Where it came from
B: The Beginning: Succession serves as the second season to the original net animation series B: The Beginning, which premiered on Netflix in 2018. Produced by the renowned studio Production I.G, the series was designed to continue the intricate psychological and supernatural narrative established by creator Kazuto Nakazawa. The project emerged from a collaboration aimed at blending high-octane crime procedural elements with complex fantasy lore, maintaining the studio's reputation for fluid animation and detailed character designs.
Kazuto Nakazawa, who is widely celebrated for his work on the animated segments of Kill Bill: Vol. 1, served as both the director and character designer for the series. His goal was to evolve the mystery surrounding the protagonist, Koku, and the mysterious organization known as Market Maker. Upon its 2021 release, the season was received by fans of the original as a darker, more focused expansion that leaned heavily into the stylistic noir sensibilities that defined the initial installment.
