Where it came from
Buddy Daddies was produced by P.A.Works and directed by Yoshiyuki Asai, premiering in early 2023. The series was conceived as an original anime project, blending the genres of action-thriller and domestic comedy. It centers on two professional assassins who find themselves unexpectedly caring for a four-year-old girl, drawing thematic inspiration from classic 'found family' tropes while maintaining the studio's reputation for high-quality animation and character-driven storytelling.
The character designs were originally drafted by Katsumi Enami, whose work focuses on balancing the protagonists' edgy professional lives with the softer, comedic elements required by the show's premise. The series was designed to explore how unconventional domesticity changes the trajectory of the lead characters. Upon its release, it was well-received by audiences for its fluid action sequences and the genuine emotional progression between the central trio.
