Where it came from
Canimals emerged from the South Korean design studio Vooz, the same creative team behind the global phenomenon Pucca. Conceived in the late 2000s, the concept centers on the whimsical idea of small, animal-like creatures that live inside common tin cans when humans are not looking. The series was designed to appeal to a broad, international demographic, utilizing non-verbal storytelling and expressive 3D animation to transcend language barriers.
The visual identity of the Canimals was crafted with a focus on high-contrast, rounded character design, emphasizing playfulness and curiosity. Upon its launch as an animated television series, the franchise garnered attention for its polished aesthetic and creative premise. It quickly transitioned into a multidisciplinary brand, spawning extensive merchandise lines, interactive mobile applications, and localized theme park attractions, firmly establishing its presence in the early 2010s character goods market.
