Where it came from
Released in 2014, Cardfight!! Vanguard: Neon Messiah serves as the first feature-length theatrical entry for the popular multimedia franchise created by Takaaki Kidani. Produced by the studio Liden Films and directed by Shin Itagaki, the project was designed to capitalize on the massive success of the trading card game and its long-running television series. It centers on a specialized tournament arc that pits the protagonist, Aichi Sendou, against an antagonist wielding a unique deck, effectively acting as an extension of the established lore while appealing to both existing fans and newcomers.
The film's visual design mirrors the high-energy aesthetic of the source material, emphasizing dramatic card battles and intense character interactions characteristic of the series' shonen demographic. Liden Films maintained the signature art style of the franchise, focusing on detailed card mechanics and character-driven stakes.
