Where it came from
The High School Arc Cont. series serves as a continuation of the 2018 reboot of the Cardfight!! Vanguard franchise, produced by studio OLM. Released in 2019, this segment was designed to transition the narrative focus toward the Shinemon Nitta arc, bridging the gap between the modern reboot and the deeper lore of the series. The production aimed to revitalize interest in the trading card game by aligning the animation style with the contemporary high-definition aesthetics prevalent in late-2010s anime.
Under the direction of the production team at OLM, the series sought to balance complex card-battling mechanics with character-driven drama. The visual design maintained the core motifs established by the Bushiroad franchise, utilizing character models that emphasized the intensity of the Vanguard card battles. Upon release, the series was received as a functional and necessary expansion of the rebooted timeline, successfully keeping the franchise relevant for its established fanbase during a period of transition for the property.
