Where it came from
Released in 2007, Case Closed: A Challenge from Agasa! Agasa vs. Conan and the Detective Boys is a special original video animation produced by TMS Entertainment. It was created as a tie-in promotion for the eleventh feature film in the Detective Boys franchise, Jolly Roger in the Deep Azure, following the tradition of releasing short animated specials alongside theatrical debuts to expand the series' reach to home media audiences.
The narrative centers on a scavenger hunt orchestrated by Professor Agasa, designed to test the deductive skills of Conan Edogawa and his young companions. The animation follows the established aesthetic of the long-running series created by Gosho Aoyama, utilizing the familiar character designs and mystery-solving structure that define the franchise, and it was received by fans as a lighthearted, quintessential addition to the canon that highlights the Professor's role as a mentor figure.
