To escape his tiring job, weary Murata finds escape at a nearby baseball stadium. While the games are thrilling, it’s Ruriko, the gyaru as cold as the beer she serves but secretly a sweetheart, who keeps him coming back. As her first regular, Murata discovers the warmth behind her frosty demeanor, and their hilarious, heartwarming encounters light up the ballpark and maybe even their hearts.

Where it came from
Catch Me at the Ballpark! is a 2025 production from the studio EMT Squared, emerging as part of the studio's strategic effort to diversify its portfolio within the competitive landscape of modern sports anime. The series was developed during a period when slice-of-life narratives centered on niche athletic hobbies were gaining renewed traction, aiming to bridge the gap between traditional competitive sports dramas and character-focused comedies.
The visual direction and character designs were crafted to prioritize expressive, fluid movement during key game sequences, a hallmark of the studio's recent output. Upon its release, the series was received as a lighthearted contribution to the genre, praised for its grounded approach to team dynamics and its focus on the atmospheric, nostalgic appeal of the ballpark setting rather than strictly focusing on high-stakes athletic tension.
