Chain Chronicle: Kuro-Nikuru Girls

Chain Chronicle: Kuro-Nikuru Girls is a series of short, comedic ONA episodes released in 2014 to promote the mobile role-playing game Chain Chronicle by Sega. Produced by Studio PuYUKAI, the series leans into a chibi-style aesthetic that contrasts with the more serious, epic tone of the main game’s narrative. The studio, known for its work on other spin-offs like Isekai Quartet, utilized these shorts to introduce the game's large roster of characters to a broader audience through lighthearted vignettes.

The character designs were adapted from the mobile game's original art, simplified to suit the studio's signature minimalist animation style. The goal was to provide quick, accessible content for existing fans while maintaining the distinct visual identity of the title's various character classes. Upon release, the series was well-received by the mobile gaming community as a charming, low-stakes supplement to the main game, successfully humanizing the collection of units that players could acquire.
