Where it came from
Chainsaw Days is a 2025 original net animation produced by Studio MAPPA, intended as an expansion of the aesthetic and narrative universe established in the studio's broader Chainsaw Man adaptations. The project was conceived as a stylistic departure from the main series, focusing on a condensed, experimental visual narrative that utilizes the studio's advanced digital compositing techniques to push the boundaries of current action-horror animation.
The creative direction for this ONA emphasizes a stark, high-contrast visual language designed to evoke the grittier elements of the source material. By focusing on atmospheric storytelling rather than traditional linear progression, the production team sought to create a visceral experience that resonated with established fans of the franchise's dark fantasy elements. Upon release, it was noted by critics for its technical precision and its commitment to a distinct, uncompromising visual identity.
