Changan Shier Shichen: Bai Ye Xingzhe

Changan Shier Shichen: Bai Ye Xingzhe is an original net animation produced by Bilibili, serving as a companion piece to the acclaimed live-action historical suspense series The Longest Day in Chang'an. The project was conceived to expand upon the rich, atmospheric world-building of Ma Boyong’s source novel, focusing on the intricate period details of the Tang Dynasty. By utilizing the medium of animation, the studio aimed to capture the kinetic energy and dense historical tapestry of the 24-hour thriller format with a greater emphasis on stylized action sequences and architectural fidelity.

The animation features a distinct visual identity that draws heavily from traditional Chinese aesthetics fused with modern motion-capture sensibilities. The character design process was driven by an attempt to reconcile historical costume accuracy with the fluid requirements of high-stakes martial arts choreography. Upon its release, the series was received as a stylistic bridge between traditional literary adaptations and contemporary digital storytelling, praised particularly for its commitment to recreating the claustrophobic tension of the Chang'an street markets.
