Chiisana Kyojin Microman: Daigekisen! Microman vs Saikyou Senshi Gorgon

Released in 1999, this short film was produced by Studio Pierrot as part of the promotional campaign for the revival of Takara's Microman toy line, which had been dormant for nearly two decades. The film served as a narrative centerpiece for the relaunch, intending to bridge the gap between the classic aesthetic of the 1970s Microman figures and the updated, more articulated toy designs released at the turn of the millennium. By focusing on a high-stakes battle between the titular Microman team and the formidable Gorgon, the production aimed to revitalize interest among nostalgic adult fans while introducing the lore to a new generation of children.

The character design and visual direction were crafted to emphasize the modular nature of the Microman figures, highlighting the interchangeability that defined the toy line. Studio Pierrot utilized a dynamic animation style characteristic of late 90s action-oriented OVAs to showcase the combat abilities of the characters. While the film was primarily a marketing tool rather than a standalone theatrical feature, it was well-received by the collecting community for its faithful representation of the toy series' hardware and sci-fi aesthetic, solidifying its place as a key historical touchstone for enthusiasts of the Microman brand.
