Chocolat Cadabra

Chocolat Cadabra is a short-form animated project produced by Studio Trigger as part of the 2017 Young Animator Training Project, also known as Anime Mirai. The initiative, funded by the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs, was established to provide on-the-job training to young animators by having them work under experienced mentors within major animation houses. This specific short was directed by Masaru Sakamoto, a key animator and character designer who has been instrumental in defining the high-energy, visually distinct style associated with Studio Trigger.

The narrative follows a young witch who struggles with the magical properties of her chocolate confections, a concept that allowed the animation team to experiment with fluid, expressive character movement and vibrant, unconventional color palettes. By leaning into the studio's signature kinetic aesthetic, the project served as both a showcase for emerging talent and a creative exercise in blending lighthearted fantasy with the intense, punchy visual language that Studio Trigger has become famous for in the global animation industry.
