Where it came from
Chou Futsuu Toshi Kashiwa Densetsu Z is a 2019 original net animation (ONA) produced by Super Normal Studio. The series serves as a comedic extension of the Chiba Prefecture city of Kashiwa’s ongoing hyper-local branding efforts, utilizing a meta-narrative style to feature real-world locations and landmarks within the city as central elements of the plot.
The production leans into a distinct, simplified aesthetic characteristic of low-budget web animation, prioritizing local accessibility and tongue-in-cheek humor over high-fidelity visuals. By casting the city itself as the protagonist and incorporating familiar Kashiwa businesses, the studio aimed to foster community engagement and regional tourism, ultimately finding a dedicated niche following among local residents and enthusiasts of regional Japanese promotional media.
