In 21st century Japan, cars with artificial intelligence for increased safety, known as "A.I. cars," have revolutionized the car industry. Special schools teaching children driving A.I. cars have been established. One day, Kakeru Todoroki, a fifth grader of Arcadia Academy, was summoned by the school principal and given an A.I. car "to save the humanity by chosen drivers like you." The car, however, is not just a car but also a transforming robot known as "Gyrozetter."

Where it came from
Chousoku Henkei Gyrozetter emerged in 2012 as an ambitious multimedia project developed by Square Enix, intended to revitalize the kids' card-battling and racing genre. A-1 Pictures was brought on to handle the production of the television anime, which functioned as a narrative accompaniment to a sophisticated arcade game where players could physically transform their toy cars into robots during gameplay.
The series was designed to appeal to a younger demographic by blending high-octane vehicle racing with the popular mecha aesthetic of the era. The visual design focused on sleek, futuristic car transformations that highlighted the partnership between real-world automotive manufacturers and the show's fictional technology. While it aimed to become a long-running cultural staple, it remains a notable example of the highly integrated marketing strategies common in early 2010s Japanese media franchises.
