Chou Shounen Tanteidan NEO

Chou Shounen Tanteidan NEO, or Super Boys Detective Team NEO, was produced by DLE and aired in 2017 as a modern reimagining of the classic literary works of Edogawa Ranpo. The series was designed to breathe new life into the long-standing Boy Detectives Club franchise, shifting the setting to a contemporary version of Tokyo where the descendants of the original characters deal with the legacy of their predecessors and the shadow of the infamous villain Twenty Faces.

The production utilized DLE’s signature Flash-animation aesthetic, a stylistic choice intended to emphasize a lighthearted and somewhat surreal atmosphere that contrasted with the gravity of the source material. While the series aimed to honor the legacy of Ranpo's prolific detective fiction, it was received as a niche experimentation within the franchise, notable primarily for its willingness to subvert the expectations of a traditional mystery procedural in favor of a more idiosyncratic, stylized narrative approach.
