Where it came from
Cinderella Girls Gekijou: Kayou Cinderella Theater 3rd Season was released in 2018 as part of the ongoing ONA adaptation of the popular mobile rhythm game series, The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls. Produced by the studio Gathering, the series was designed to provide a lighthearted, comedic companion to the main game, focusing on the everyday antics and interactions of the idols in a simplified, chibi-style aesthetic that contrasted with the more polished visuals of the primary franchise entries.
The animation style was heavily influenced by the in-game 'Cinderella Girls Theater' comic strips, which were authored by Kuma-Jet. The production team aimed to capture the essence of these gag-style manga, prioritizing character charm and fast-paced comedic timing over complex animation. Upon release, the season was well-received by the existing fan base for its ability to flesh out the personalities of the massive idol roster, solidifying its place as a staple of the franchise's multimedia output.
