Clean Freak! Aoyama kun

Clean Freak! Aoyama-kun, known in Japan as Keppeki Danshi! Aoyama-kun, debuted in 2017 as a television anime adaptation of the manga series by Taku Sakamoto. Produced by Studio Hibari and directed by Kazuya Ichikawa, the series emerged from the sports comedy subgenre, focusing on a high school soccer prodigy with severe mysophobia. The production team aimed to balance the comedic antics resulting from Aoyama’s obsessive cleanliness with the earnest dynamics of a high school soccer team, utilizing a bright, clean visual aesthetic to reflect the protagonist's personality.

The series received a generally positive reception for its lighthearted humor and character-driven approach to the sports genre. Critics and viewers often noted that the show successfully leaned into the absurdity of Aoyama’s condition while maintaining emotional resonance within his relationships with teammates. As a relatively niche title, it is regarded as a quintessential example of late 2010s comedy anime that focuses on situational irony and social integration rather than traditional competitive sports stakes.
