CLUSTER EDGE: Secret Episode

Cluster Edge: Secret Episode was released in 2006 as a direct-to-video original animation (OVA) following the conclusion of the Sunrise-produced television series. Designed to provide closure and additional character development, the episode functions as a bridge that explores the aftermath of the main narrative's conclusion. It reflects the mid-2000s trend of studios producing supplementary content to sustain engagement with niche science-fiction anime franchises.

The visual direction and character designs follow the aesthetic established by the original series, which drew inspiration from the distinctive style of Sunrise’s character-heavy dramas. While the television series received mixed critical reception due to its dense pacing and complex world-building, the OVA was primarily intended for dedicated fans seeking finality in the character arcs. It represents a typical example of the OVA format's role in the era as a platform for epilogues that could not fit within the constraints of a standard thirteen or twenty-six-episode broadcast run.
