Where it came from
Conflicted was produced by the animation department at Tokyo University of the Arts, known as Geidai Animation. Emerging from this prestigious academic environment, the film reflects the university's focus on experimental storytelling and rigorous craft, serving as a platform for emerging creators to explore complex psychological themes within the short-form cinematic medium.
The film is defined by the distinct aesthetic sensibilities cultivated within the Geidai program, which often prioritizes introspective and avant-garde animation techniques over traditional commercial tropes. While it remains a niche entry within the broader landscape of independent Japanese animation, it is regarded as a thoughtful study of internal struggle, showcasing the high level of technical proficiency and artistic ambition characteristic of the studio's student-led projects.
