The animation "Starting from Red Moon" is adapted from the novel of the same name written by Heishan Laogui. The story tells the story of a blood-red moon suddenly appearing in the sky, which is known as the red moon event in history. The remaining survivors had to hide in the city protected by high walls. Among the survivors, some people also suffered from mental mutations. Among them, those who could not control their own mental mutations would emit mental plague and radiation. It contaminates the normal people around it and poses a great threat to the surviving humans. In order to solve the source of the pollution, High Wall City established a special pollution cleanup department, recruiting people who can control spiritual energy, and our protagonist Lu Xin is applying for the most dangerous cleanup department!

Where it came from
Cong Hong Yue Kaishi, also known as The Origin of the Red Moon, is a Chinese original net animation (ONA) produced by Tencent Animation & Comics. The series is based on a popular web novel by Hei Ge and debuted as part of Tencent's aggressive expansion into high-fidelity 3D animation, aimed at adapting domestic web literature for a global streaming audience. The production reflects the studio's focus on blending dark fantasy elements with fast-paced, stylized action sequences that appeal to contemporary digital-first demographics.
The visual design of the series leans into a distinct urban-apocalyptic aesthetic, emphasizing stark color contrasts and intricate character models that mirror the source material's ominous tone. Upon release, the show was received as a notable entry in Tencent's growing catalog of supernatural thrillers, drawing praise for its technical ambition in depicting complex combat choreography within the constraints of serialized streaming animation. It serves as a representative example of how modern Chinese studios are increasingly utilizing sophisticated CG techniques to translate lengthy, episodic web fiction into visual media.
