COSMO POLICE Justy

Cosmo Police Justy was released in 1985 as an original video animation produced by Studio Pierrot. The project was based on the manga series by Tsuguo Okazaki, which serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday during the early 1980s. Emerging during the height of the 1980s space opera boom in Japanese animation, the production sought to capitalize on the aesthetic trends of the era, blending science fiction elements with a focus on psychic powers and galactic conflict.

The character design and overall visual direction were influenced by the transition from print to screen, aiming to replicate Okazaki's distinct linework while accommodating the medium's animation requirements. Upon its release, the OVA was received as a representative example of the mid-80s direct-to-video market, notable for its technical experimentation and its role in expanding the library of Studio Pierrot, which was quickly establishing itself as a prolific force in the industry.
