Cosplay COMPLEX: Extra Identification

Cosplay Complex: Extra Identification was released in 2004 as an original video animation, serving as an extension to the two-episode series produced by Lantis. The project emerged from the creative surge of the early 2000s anime industry, which often experimented with short-form content and meta-narratives centered on otaku culture. This specific entry was designed to bridge gaps in the series' narrative, offering viewers a more comprehensive look at the central cast and their elaborate costume-making endeavors.

The production leans into the lighthearted, comedic tone established by the original episodes, focusing on the frantic energy of high school students participating in cosplay events. Artistic direction prioritized character-driven humor and visual gags related to costume construction, aiming to resonate with fans who appreciated the self-aware portrayal of hobbyist communities. While the series maintains a niche status, it remains a documented relic of a period when boutique OVA releases were frequently used to provide supplemental lore to established anime franchises.
