Where it came from
Coyote Ragtime Show was produced by the studio ufotable and released in 2006 as a twelve-episode television series. It occupies a distinct space in the mid-2000s anime landscape, serving as a space-western adventure that blends high-stakes heists with a lighthearted, ensemble-driven narrative. The story follows a space outlaw named Mister and his crew as they navigate a treasure hunt involving a mysterious woman and a planetary mystery, reflecting the period's interest in retro-inspired action and character-focused sci-fi.
The series was directed by Takuya Nonaka and featured character designs that leaned into a stylized, classic aesthetic intended to evoke the feel of older adventure anime. While it was not a massive critical or commercial hit upon its initial broadcast, it remains noted by enthusiasts for its energetic tone and its contribution to the catalog of ufotable before the studio moved toward the more visually technical projects that would define its later output.
