Crappy Fantasy Days

Crappy Fantasy Days is a satirical anthology and artistic commentary on the proliferation of low-budget fantasy tabletop roleplaying supplements during the late 1990s. It was conceived as a tongue-in-cheek response to the oversaturation of the market, where amateur creators often self-published modules with derivative tropes and questionable editorial standards. The project was intended to serve as both a parody of these shortcomings and a tribute to the earnest, albeit flawed, enthusiasm of independent creators from that era.

The aesthetic design intentionally utilizes amateurish layout techniques, inconsistent typography, and intentionally jarring illustrations to mimic the 'basement-made' quality of its subject matter. It was largely a collaborative effort within a niche corner of the gaming community, designed by independent graphic artists who sought to highlight the charm found in unpolished storytelling. Upon its limited release, it was received primarily as a cult curio among veteran gamers who recognized the specific tropes and design failures it sought to lampoon.
