Where it came from
Crayon Shin-chan: Bakumori! Kung Fu Boys - Ramen Tairan, released in 2018, is the 26th feature film in the long-running Crayon Shin-chan franchise. Directed by Wataru Takahashi, who has been a consistent creative force within the series, the film was developed to commemorate the enduring legacy of Yoshito Usui's original manga. The narrative shifts the setting to the fictional Chinatown of Aiya-town, blending traditional kung fu cinema tropes with the trademark absurdist humor and social commentary characteristic of the series.
The film's visual design and thematic direction were crafted to pay homage to classic martial arts films of the 1970s and 80s, specifically those featuring intense training montages and stylized combat. By focusing on the 'Puni-Puni' fist style, the animators aimed to maintain the series' signature lighthearted aesthetic while providing dynamic action sequences. Upon its release, it was well-received by fans of the franchise for its blend of nostalgic kung fu motifs and the familiar, chaotic charm of the Nohara family.
