CYBORG009 CALL OF JUSTICE 2

Cyborg 009: Call of Justice is a three-part film project released in 2016, marking the 70th anniversary of creator Shotaro Ishinomori's debut. Produced by Signal.MD and directed by Koudai Kakimoto with Kenji Kamiyama as chief director, the project was intended to modernize the classic 1964 manga series for a new generation. The production utilized full 3D computer-generated imagery to depict the iconic Nine Cyborgs as they face off against the powerful group known as the Blessed.

The character designs for the project were handled by Masatsugu Saito, who sought to balance the nostalgia of Ishinomori's original vision with a streamlined, contemporary aesthetic suited for 3D animation. Upon its release, the film was noted for its departure from traditional hand-drawn animation styles, reflecting the industry's experimental shift toward digital workflows during the mid-2010s. While it received mixed reactions from long-time fans accustomed to the classic look, it remains a significant entry in the expansive Cyborg 009 legacy.
