Where it came from
D4DJ First Mix was produced by SANZIGEN animation studio and premiered in 2020 as a core pillar of Bushiroad's multimedia franchise. The series serves as the primary entry point into the D4DJ universe, focusing on the formation of the DJ unit Happy Around! and the competitive landscape of disc jockeying. It was conceived to integrate digital music production, live performance, and character-driven storytelling, utilizing 3D CGI to capture the dynamic energy of DJ sets.
The series was directed by Seiji Mizushima, who sought to leverage SANZIGEN's expertise in cel-shaded 3D animation to create seamless transitions between narrative segments and high-intensity musical performances. The aesthetic aims to balance a vibrant, idol-inspired visual style with the technical nuances of DJ equipment and stage lighting. Upon its release, the show was well-regarded for its technical proficiency in rendering concert sequences, distinguishing itself within the crowded landscape of music-themed anime.
