Daikyouryuu Jidai

Daikyouryuu Jidai, released in 1979, emerged during a period when Toei Animation was exploring diverse subjects for their theatrical features. The film was produced as part of a trend in Japanese animation to capitalize on the public's enduring fascination with prehistoric life, blending educational elements with a narrative-driven adventure. It occupies a distinct space in the studio's catalog, acting as a standalone work that utilized the established animation techniques of the late 1970s to bring dinosaurs to life on the big screen.

The film's visual style reflects the aesthetic choices of the era, prioritizing character-driven movement against stylized, painted backgrounds. While not as widely celebrated as the studio's major franchise entries, the production team sought to craft an engaging, accessible experience for younger viewers. Upon its release, the film was received as a modest addition to Toei’s filmography, noted by historians of the medium for its contribution to the niche genre of animated dinosaur narratives during the pre-digital animation period.
