Where it came from
Dan Da Dan is an animated television series produced by the Japanese studio Science SARU, which premiered in 2024. The series adapts the popular manga created by Yukinobu Tatsu, a work recognized for its frenetic energy and unconventional blending of science fiction, supernatural horror, and teenage romantic comedy. The adaptation was highly anticipated within the animation community due to the distinct visual style of the source material and the studio's reputation for experimental storytelling.
Under the direction of Fuga Yamashiro, the production team sought to translate Tatsu’s complex, high-octane art style into a fluid, kinetic motion format. The series is characterized by its bold character designs and a vibrant color palette, intended to capture the eccentric spirit of the manga while grounding the more surreal elements in a relatable narrative. Upon its release, the adaptation received widespread critical attention for its technical ambition and its faithful yet dynamic interpretation of the original creator's vision.
