Where it came from
Dangerous Jii-san Ja, or Zettai Zetsumei Dangerous Jii-san, originated from the long-running gag manga series by Kazutoshi Soyama serialized in CoroCoro Comic. Following the success of previous television anime adaptations, the 2012 OVA project was produced by J.C.Staff to capture the series' signature brand of chaotic, over-the-top absurdist humor. The production aimed to distill the manga's frenetic visual pacing and irreverent tone into a concentrated animated format, targeting a demographic familiar with the source material's slapstick sensibilities.
The animation style serves as a deliberate extension of Soyama’s rough, high-energy artistic aesthetic, focusing on comedic timing and exaggerated character expressions. By utilizing J.C.Staff’s experienced production team, the OVA maintained the series' established visual shorthand, ensuring the nonsensical narrative arcs remained coherent within the medium's limitations. It was received primarily as a niche follow-up for loyal fans of the franchise, reflecting the enduring legacy of one of CoroCoro Comic’s most iconoclastic characters.
