Where it came from
Dangerous Jiisan Ja, or Zettai Zetsumei Dangerous Jiisan, originated as a popular long-running gag manga series by Kazutoshi Soyama in CoroCoro Comic. The 2012 television adaptation, produced by J.C.Staff, serves as a surreal expansion of the source material's signature brand of absurd, over-the-top physical comedy that focuses on an elderly protagonist who is inexplicably powerful and prone to chaotic outbursts.
The animation design emphasizes high-energy, distorted visuals to capture the manic tone of the manga. While the original print series was a massive commercial success for Shogakukan, this specific 2012 anime iteration was designed to translate the frantic pacing and visual non-sequiturs of the page to the screen, relying on rapid-fire jokes and stylistic shifts that define the legacy of the franchise in Japanese children's media.
