Dark Blue

Dark Blue is a 2012 original video animation produced by the studio PoRO. The work emerged during a period when the studio was solidifying its niche in the independent adult animation market, focusing on stylized character designs and specific narrative tropes common to the seinen-demographic erotic OVA scene. Like many releases from this boutique studio, the project was designed to showcase high-fidelity digital art and character-driven storytelling, catering to a dedicated audience that valued aesthetic cohesion and expressive animation techniques over mainstream commercial appeal.

The creative direction for Dark Blue reflects the studio's internal house style, characterized by a deliberate emphasis on fluid movement and nuanced facial expressions. By focusing on a self-contained narrative structure, the production team aimed to maximize the visual impact of each sequence within the constraints of the OVA format. Upon its release, the work was received primarily within enthusiast circles, where it was noted for its technical consistency and its adherence to the distinct thematic conventions that defined PoRO's portfolio during the early 2010s.
