The story revolves around Shouta, a regular high school boy whose life is suddenly changed when a creature called a Gasshapon appears in front of him, and claims to come from the future. (The Gasshapon is shaped like Bandai's Gashapon prize-dispensing machines.) The Gasshapon was sent to the past by the future Shouta, from an era in which an alien group called CC (or Cold Cosmo) have made it their mission to change all stars and planets that have light and warmth into dark, cold places like their own. The Gasshapon had intended to take young Shouta to 2080 to save the future, but because time travel had not been fully perfected yet, Shouta is thrown into a completely different time, the era of the Honnouji Incident (1582), where Shouta actually becomes the famous warlord Oda Nobunaga.

Where it came from
Dasshutsu Gasshapon was released by Bandai as part of their promotional initiatives surrounding their long-running Gashapon capsule toy brand. It functioned as a short-form original net animation (ONA) designed to highlight the whimsical and often unpredictable nature of collecting these miniature figures. The production served as a lighthearted advertisement, utilizing the medium of animation to bridge the gap between static collectibles and vibrant, character-driven storytelling.
The creative direction for the short leaned into the aesthetic established by the Gashapon brand, emphasizing a playful, high-energy visual style that resonated with younger audiences and nostalgia-seeking collectors. By focusing on the suspense of the vending process and the excitement of acquiring a rare item, the studio aimed to capture the core experience of the hobby. It was received as a niche but effective piece of marketing that successfully humanized the brand's expansive product line.
